Evangelism is not just one project then we are done but a lifestyle that our church has adopted. Because of that lifestyle we find ourselves working with other churches in our community through the Association of Churches serving and helping with community evangelism.
Examples of that include; Community Vacation Bible School, Easter Lenten Breakfasts and Christmas advent lunches. Besides our work with the church association, we have sponsored other programs such as Financial Peace, healthy cooking classes, firemen and law enforcement appreciation, It Is Written Seminars with Shawn Boonstra and community Agape feast, just to name a few.
In other words, we are always looking for ways to live and share our Jesus with our community.
The Guthrie Center Seventh-day Adventist church is a praying church. We devote time every Sabbath morning for prayer requests. In addition, several members meet every Monday morning at 7:15 AM to spend time in prayer for our church and community. We invite anyone who has a special prayer request to let us know and we will make it a matter of prayer.
We are a serving church. We enjoy helping others who might have a need, like washing windows, or simply doing things to let others know how much God cares for them through our small acts of kindness. Examples of this are small loaves of bread delivered to every home in our community. A bag of supplies for “S’more Smiles” handed out to campers at the fair, cold water given out at the 4 way stop in town.
We are a family! Because of that we enjoy spending time together having fun in a safe and healthy environment. Hayrides, church social with games and snacks, special Christmas dinners, appreciation Sabbaths. You name It, we enjoy connecting with each other as family!
The whole reason for church is to bring us closer to God and help us get to know Jesus as our Friend and Savior. Every Sabbath morning, we spend time in Bible Study as we review our Sabbath School lesson. We continue this with a relaxed group learning/ study time every Thursday evening in the church basement discussing various author’s books or bible lessons on various topics. We want to know Jesus so we can share Jesus with others around us.
Because the Lord has blessed us, we are a giving church. Often needs have been brought to our attention for help with various rent or utility bills of individuals from the community. We have been fortunate enough to help with those needs. We also donate to the food pantry monthly and prepare Christmas gifts or Thanksgiving baskets for families in need. We have sent packages to serving military from our community, sponsoring a child from India or Project Hope to attend school. We have sponsored missionaries from Gospel Outreach and donated to ADRA. We are blessed and in turn want to bless others who have financial needs.
The mission of the Iowa-Missouri Women's Ministries is to model Jesus Christ through meaningful relationships and effective ministries. As the Guthrie Center Seventh-day Adventist church we strive to do this through variousoutreach programs and social interactions. Some of the fun outreach projects we have done include sewing baby blankets for the Guthrie County “Babies Nest” to give to new mothers, filling gently used handbags with ladies’ toiletries for “New Opportunities” to give out to mothers in need at Christmas time.
We have made Valentine cards to give to the women at the nursing home who attended out valentine tea party. We have held tea parties and even a Fiesta that we invited our friends from the community to share with us. We created warm, fuzzy fleece blankets to be sold at the craft sale during the IA-MO Women’s Retreat to help with scholarships. We believe working and fellowshipping together brings us closer to Jesus and each other.
